General

Steps to reproduce

The app was working properly, all of a sudden, I noticed today that it isn't starting at startup! I went to the settings and saw that the "run PowerToys at startup" option was off, then I set back on and left. But after I restarted my pc, it didn't start up, I checked again and I see that the option for startup is again off, then I turned on and left app and came back right after closing the app and still see that the option was off, the option for startup automatically turns off, which is why it doesn't run at startup.
Thank you for your support!!

✔️ Expected Behavior

Run at startup option should have not automatically turn off!

❌ Actual Behavior

Run at startup option automatically turns off!

Is it possible that the older installation was done with user-scope, and the latest is machine-scope?

@SupBro5 it looks like the bug report you attached didn't attach correctly. Maybe you hit comment before it was done uploading.

@SupBro5 from the bugreport it is not clear what is happening. Can you take these steps and report back:

  1. Enabling "Run at startup" in PowerToys Settings
  2. Exit PowerToys from the tray icon.
  3. Launch PowerToys from Start Menu
  4. Go to settings and check the status of "Run at startup"

I did the steps mentioned above. After I enabled and exited and launched again, I see that the option is disabled again!! It automatically disables, or maybe it shows that it will run at startup when I enable it but can't make a change in its program/files... I guess, and maybe that's why when I start the app again it shows that the option is disabled!!!

@SupBro5 can you open Task Scheduler and open the PowerToys folder. Here is what mine looks like:

image

That is where PowerToys tells Windows to launch when the user logs on.

Same problem here, Task scheduler shows an Internal error happened messagebox, then it is empty. I am a windows insider stuck on Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.26040.1000], so may have other problems, too.

Any update???

@SupBro5 Please review this similar issue and see if you can add PowerToys to TaskScheduler. The issue may be you installed PowerToys as an admin user, then login as a different standard user which does not trigger launching PowerToys in Task Scheduler.
