The second iteration

The second UX Camp Hamburg has happened on Saturday, August 17, 2013. It is a BarCamp on the topic of User Experience. The independently organised event took place at SinnerSchrader, our beloved location partner. This year round we were also supported by precious, with a special room for larger sessions. It is by all means a summer camp: besides well-equipped conference rooms on the inside, the location also features roofed and open-air spaces for outside sessions. There always is lunch, tasty BBQ, and cold drinks (someone overheard people talking about additional surprises!?). For your information this year was a next generation event: We provided free child care. There was a warm-up-evening and after-party both happening at 8pm at imoto-Bar close by. What you need to provide for barcamps: cool sessions! If you are wondering now what that means, or what a Barcamp is anyways, read "What is a BarCamp?".

Designing the Mobile Wallet Experience

By the end of 2013 more than 270M NFC enabled mobile devices are expected to be in use world-wide. Initially these will be used for contactless payments, transport ticketing and retail loyalty programs and vouchers, replacing physical plastic cards and paper coupons. Long term, mobile wallets will potentially store identity information. During this session I intend to share some of the unique design challenges.

Quick & Dirty Usability Testing

Adapt or Perish

In this talk I aim to discuss the concept of adaptive content and show how an adaptive-content approach has business imperative. I will discuss the potential of machine learning algorithms in creating adaptive-content solutions, and finally for those of us who work in a small organisation that cannot employ data scientists to write complex algorithms, I will share simple tactics for adaptive content design.

Designing for small interfaces

If you downsize from a big house to a small apartment, you probably realize at some point that you can't bring all your stuff with you, and that you have to be a bit creative with space. This is where you sit down and define what's important for you and you either trade in the rest for smaller versions of the same stuff or you get rid of it. Either way, it's all about being creative with what you've got.

The hidden secrets of user motivation

Background: I am psychologist, working with project teams on reaching their goals smarter and with more fun. In this session I will share with you why I did quite my job at IBM and why I am not longer active on Facebook. Please bring your questions with you, I am willing to get in dialog!

Fünf Songs in fünf Clips.

Was Verbindung schafft.

Digital is so yesterday

Communicating in style

In our field we put a high focus on users, mental models, personas, computer-human-interaction and often miss out on the human-human-interaction during the design process. Successful communication of your contributions to different stakeholders can be greatly improved by applying communication styles. By understanding your style, recognising the style of others and flexing your personal style to others, you will learn to gain the necessary awareness to overcome communication breaking points within the design process. I will explain the concept of communication styles, show how to identify your own style and that of co-workers. I will show you how to adapt your own style to others to ensure you will be heard during the process and help you to overcome conflicts.

Physical UX hits the consumer market - now what are we going to do with it?

Physical interaction with electronic devices not only left the maker spaces and went pro. It already hit the mass market. From Internet of Things with products like Berg Little Printer to the Intranet Of Things with Leap Motion, Sphero and Tile we are seeing a rising number of new form of interaction with our online and offline devices. Besides the representation of data in physical objects there's also a new wave of data input devices. We'll discuss examples and of course will have some on site experience with one device or the other. What are the opportunities & challenges that we face from a UX perspective? Are we going to make the same mistakes that were made transitioning from print to online? Let's have a look.

The dark side of UX
