Status of Bootstrap as a project?

Hello,

I’m just wondering what the status of Bootstrap is? As the last release (5.3.3) was exactly a year ago now.

I’ve been a regular user of Bootstrap since v1, help out with the Discord and Reddit communities, and been a supporter/defender of Bootstrap in the wake of tribal-like supporters of other CSS libraries; but it’s getting a bit difficult to defend Bootstrap as a viable solution for creating website and web app front-ends when—from the surface—Bootstrap looks dead for lack of a better word.

I appreciate this may come across negative and demoralising, but that’s not my intention. It comes from a place of love of Bootstrap and wanting to see Bootstrap flourish in 2025 and beyond. So would be keen to find out who’s actually working on the project, the roadmap for Bootstrap, and ways in which I can help.

You're all good! v6 is under way now and I'll be pushing v5.3.4 out shortly while @julien-deramond and others help us figure out a transition plan from v5 to v6 (primarily due to Sass's deprecations and more).

@mdo Thank you for your work. I have just reviewed your changes and have the following questions:

• What about CSS logical properties and values? It would be better to handle LTR and RTL directions using them.
• Do you plan to move variables directly to the component? In the current solution, you can import components separately, but when you try to override their variables:

@use "alert" with (
  $accordion-padding-x: 20rem
);

Then

Error: This variable was not declared with !default in the @used module.
